Channeling my Grandmother

So, the past few weeks... I've been baking. And baking... and baking. :) I think I'm channeling Mommaw. She was a great cook, and I loved her baking.

Tonight, specifically, I made 4 loaves of pumpkin bread, some muffins, a pumpkin pie and, now, a transparent pie. Transparent pie is one of Mommaw's pies... and it has the flavor of chess pie or pecan pie, but the texture is different and there are no nuts. I'm hoping the pies turn out OK. It's the first time in years I've attempted home-made pies...

The bread, on the other hand, is great. :) That I do know!

Why so much baking? Well, I had a large pumpkin and 3 butternut squash that I got from our jaunt to the Pumpkin farm last month. I wanted to use it. So, I did. :) Someone will eat it. I might even try to freeze one of the loaves of bread and see how it handles when it defrosts later. I was very pleased with the bread recipe.

Anyway, Happy Thanksgiving!!! May you be safe and blessed.

Peace.

  2. Looks like you had a great time baking. It seems rather appropriate this time of year.

I LOVE pumpkin pie and pecan pie. Those are my two favaorite pies in the whole world.

The transperant pies sounds deeeeeelicious! But be honest with me, aren't they a little bit hard to see?;0)

  3. Oops!
You know, I skimmed your post on my way out and inadvertently overlooked the fact that this post was related to your dear grandmother. Didn't mean to make light of the recipe that was handed down to you. So, mea culpa. You are more than welcomed to delete it completely.

I lost my grandmother this past March so I know how much value those remnants are imbued with. Happy Thanksgiving.

  4. Tom, I didn't take offense! That was funny, actually. :) transparent == can't see it... haha

It is hard to lose a grandparent who means so much to you, isn't it? I'm sorry for your loss, too.

I hope you had a great Thanksgiving! And lots of yummy food!
